My project will be surrounding the Maori Pioneer Battalion, and how they were viewed and treated by the French and the Kiwis in WW1. This battalion is described by Christopher Pugsley in his book The Maori Pioneer Battalion In The First World War, as "...important in forcing a recognition of Maori worth on a complacent and unresponsive Pakeha society." I want to not only engage myself when exploring this topic, but others in the community as I believe sharing histories is the way forward in this young ambassadors project. It was an awesome welcome in Wellington by Glenda Palmer, Pascale Hyboud-Peron, Morgan Patterson and the Alliance Francaise who provided the venue. The reception at the French embassy was truly unforgettable and it was wonderful making connections with the other young ambassadors and hearing their stories. I'd like to thank them all as well as my French teacher Madame Clark and all the sponsors and supporters that have gone into making this project what it is.

*On Saturday I went to Wellington to meet the other young ambassadors who are going with me to France in September. We went to the Great War Museum in Wellington (Which I would highly recommend you visit if you are ever in Wellington) and we learnt about the war and shared with each other our projects. I was inspired by all the other young ambassadors who came from throughout NZ, and everyone was excited about the programme and French which was awesome. I'm going to explain to you what my projects about and how you can be apart of it.
